Police seek apartment shooters

The Troy Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying the person or people responsible for shooting into an occupied apartment twice this month.
Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said the first incident occurred around midnight on February 16 in the 900 block of South Franklin Drive.
“We got a call on the 16th just after midnight about shots being fired into an upstairs apartment form the ground,” Barr said. “One round also hit a vehicle owned by one of the people living in the apartment.”
Then, three nights later, it happened again.
“About the same time of night on the 19th, we had multiple rounds fired into the same apartment,” Barr said. “Luckily, by the grace of God, nobody was hit.”
Although nobody was injured, Barr said there was extensive damage to the exterior walls and windows and the inside of the apartment.
Barr said witnesses reported a dark red or maroon Jeep Cherokee or Jeep Wrangler leaving the area shortly after the February 19 shooting. Investigators are searching for the Jeep, but Barr said there’s no way to be sure yet whether the vehicle is connected to the crime.
The police department is asking for the community to call in with any tips they may have.
“We’d certainly like to ask the people that live in that area or travel through that area if they’ve seen or heard anything about who might be doing this,” Barr said. “Give us a call, no matter how insignificant you think it might be.”
Residents with any possible information about the crime can contact the Troy Police Department by calling 334-566-0500 or the secret witness line at 334-566-5555.
