Grant takes home top score in January Jam Tournament

Over 140 archers competed in the “January Jam” tournament that was held at Troy Elementary School on January 27th and 28th.
“We were pleased with the number of participants in the tournament,” said Forrest Lee, meet director. “This is a warm-up to our Regional Qualifier that we host on February 9-10 at the Troy Recreation Center. Our goal is to promote the sport of archery and are thankful to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for sponsoring the National Archery in the Schools Program for the state of Alabama.”
Kayla Grant took home the overall championship with 283 points, while Beaux Mizell led the boys with 276 points. In the elementary girls division, Marry Sampson Dunn took home the first place prize, while Madelyn Braswell from Highlands Elementary and Mary Hayden West took home second and third. Overall boys champion, Mizell took home the elementary boys division title with Kamron Boykin and Bryson Mizell finished second and third.
In the middle school boys division, Caleb Watkins finished in first place with 272 points. Noah Prestwood and Blake Barron rounded out the top three.
Amber Barron took the top prize in the high school girls division, with Jessie Shipman finishing in second. Brandon Cain finished in first place on the boy’s side with 270 points with Zac Clark and Ashton Lewis rounding out the top three.
Sherry Grable and Rick Braisted won the open men and women’s division.
Schools represented were Highlands Elementary of Dothan, Floyd Middle Magnet of Montgomery, Goshen Elementary, Banks Middle, Charles Henderson High, Zion Chapel, Charles Henderson Middle and Troy Elementary. Thirteen adults competed in the open division.
