Barr said his department has begun performing routine checks on these convenience stores after residents reported illegal sales to minors.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the ABC Board had been the ones to typically take care of these kinds of incidents, but Barr said after the agencies became spread thin recently, his department decided to take on the role of policing the stores.

“There is no circumstance where that is OK. We want to do everything we can to prevent sale to a minor,” Barr said.

Barr did not identify the minor who purchased the alcohol or the convenience store and said that his department did not make an arrest.
