Dr. Cecil Franklin Dozier

The funeral service for Dr. Cecil Franklin Dozier, 77, of Anniston, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1000 Leighton Avenue, Anniston, AL 36207 with The Rev. Dr. Lee F. Shafer officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the King Parlor at Grace Episcopal.  Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Green Hills Cemetery in Troy.

Dr. Dozier passed away on December 6, 2016 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Dozier and his twin brother, Cary, graduated from Troy High School and were members of the 1958 Championship football team.  He attended Samford University and after joining the US Army and serving in Turkey, he returned to Troy State College for his bachelor’s degree.  He went on to earn a master’s degree and an Ed.D. in Education Administration from The University of Alabama. 

Dr. Dozier taught and served as an administrator in the Anniston City Schools for 20 years.  He loved working with his students, instilling in them his philosophy of respect, worthiness, and purpose.  Faith, family, and friendship were most important to him.  He was a man of honor, kindness, consideration, and compassion. 

Dr. Dozier is preceded in death by his parents, Linwood Lawson Dozier and Mary Nell Donaldson Dozier.

Dr. Dozier is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria K. Thompson Dozier, of Anniston; his son, Brent Lawson Dozier, of Troy; a daughter, Michelle “Missy” Dozier Stewart, of Troy; and two grandsons, Logan Wayne Stewart (Katharine) and Lawson Dozier Stewart, both of Troy.  Dr. Dozier is also survived by his twin brother, Cary Linwood Dozier (Betty), of Troy; a sister, Gail Dozier Dickens, of Troy; a sister-in-law, Meta Thompson Butler (Mike) of Lexington, NC; a brother-in-law, Keith Thompson, of Tallassee, AL; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Memorial Fund at Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1791, Anniston, AL 36202.
