Police identify man who was found dead at downtown square

The Troy Police Department has released the identity of the man who was found dead in his vehicle at the Square during the Pumpkins Around the Square event.

The man was Richard Allen McNaught, 52, of Wisconsin. A Troy police officer working the event saw McNaught slumped over in his vehicle at approximately 3:15 p.m. and attempted to ask him if he needed medical attention.

When McNaught did not respond, the officer immediately summoned medical personnel. Shortly after the Troy Fire Department and Haynes Ambulance arrived it was determined that McNaught was deceased.

The investigation revealed that McNaught was a caretaker for an elderly person in Barbour County.

McNaught’s body did not show signs of physical trauma and the cause of death has not yet been determined. His body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

The Troy Police Department is investigating this case as a death investigation with the assistance of the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, the Pike County Coroner’s Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
