Troy University issues statement on fatal shooting of student

Troy University has released a statement regarding a student who was fatally shot this morning off-campus.

“Troy University has been notified of the death of a student in the early morning hours of Oct. 14, 2016. The death, which occurred off campus, is being investigated by the City of Troy Police Department, and the name of the student is being withheld pending notification of the family. Because of the active nature of the investigation, additional details have not been released by city police. The University is providing counseling and other support to students, and our thoughts and prayers are with all during this time.”

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr confirmed that a fatal shooting took place at approximately 3:30 a.m in the 300 block of Jane Road. No further details are available at this time.
