Baldwin County is the largest county in the state, so naturally or unnaturally, one might think that Baldwin has the most ghosts roaming inside its borders.
Harriet Outlaw, author of “Haunted Baldwin County, Alabama” has uncovered many of stories of the supernatural events and the colorful characters of Baldwin County. And, she will be the guest teller of ghost stories at The Female Factor at noon on Wednesday at The Studio in downtown Troy.
Diana Lee, Female Factor Advisory Board, said the board thought the month of October and Halloween would be a great time to do something spooky and fun.
“Harriet Outlaw lives in Fairhope and was friends with Kathryn Tucker Windham, who wrote and told stories of Jeffrey the ghost that lived with her,” Lee said. “Harriet will be telling ghost stories of her own – stories of Haunted Baldwin County.”
Those stories will, perhaps, include the lonesome piano melodies that haunt the Grand Hotel Ballroom or the soldier buried in the Confederate Rest Cemetery. Outlaw just might tell stories of ghosts that are not so familiar, even to the residents of Haunted Baldwin County.
But, for sure, Outlaw will tell the stories behind the spirits that represent some of the most colorful characters from the supernatural that continue to reside in Baldwin County. She will have copies of her book of ghost stories available for sale.
Lee said an added attraction at Female Factor will be a visit from Madame Dorthea, a fortune teller who reads palms as well as a crystal ball.
“Prior to the program, Madame Dorthea will be available to read palms and reveal what the future holds,” Lee said. “Those who want to know what’s in their futures might want to plan to come early or stay late.”
The Female Factor Board will take reservations until this afternoon for Wednesday’s event. To make reservations call 334-670-5487 or email Karen.Herring@troymedicalcenter.com
