Are you ready for some football?

If so, Brown Bag on the Square in downtown Troy is where you’ll want to be at noon on Thursday, said Shelia Jackson, Troy tourism director.

“This will be our ‘Countdown to Kickoff and Meet and Greet’ with our local coaches, Troy University Head Football Coach Neal Brown and high school coaches Brad McCoy of Charles Henderson High and Gene Allen of Pike Liberal Arts.”

Jackson said the Brown Bag Lunch will be an opportunity to meet the coaches and experience the excitement that surrounds both college and high school football.

“Troy University is our hometown team and we want to show Coach Brown and the Trojans that we are One Troy, the city and the university,” Jackson said.

“We also want to show our support for our local high school teams. Troy is football proud and the excitement is building as we ‘Countdown to Kickoff.’”

Troy’s Tony Terry, anchor for WSFA’s Today in Alabama, will be the emcee for Thursday’s Brown Bag and The Jim Brown Trio will be the featured entertainment.

“We encourage everyone to come out and support our local football programs, be well entertained by Tonya Terry and the Jim Bell Trio and enjoy lunch on the square,” Jackson said.

“You can pack your own lunch, stop at your favorite Troy restaurant and pick up lunch or join us for hotdogs that will be available on the square.

“What better way to kick off football season that with football, food and fellowship on the square in downtown Troy.”

As always, door prizes will be awarded by the luck of the draw. Among the prizes will be ticket sets for the first Troy University home football game vs. Austin Peay at 5 p.m. on September 3.

CHHS will get the season underway at 7 p.m. August 17 at Bulldog Stadium and PLAS will kickoff the season against Clarke Prep, at 7 p.m. August 26.
