An inmate of the Alabama Department of Corrections was killed Monday while picking up trash along U.S. 231 South, according the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency,

Steven Edward Martin, 34, of Warrior was killed when he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 around 1:45 p.m. near the 177 mile marker, five miles south of Troy.

Martin was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was not injured.

State troopers will continue to investigate the case.
