A toddler narrowly avoided tragedy Friday when the he ran out in front of a car on Corman Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle managed to swerve at the last second to avoid hitting the 14-month-old child completely, side-swiping him instead.

According to Lt. Brian Weed, the child was in his front yard playing with his parents when he suddenly ran out into the street.

“Luckily, the driver was able to swerve at the last second to avoid making this a really bad situation,” Weed said. “It was just a kid running off suddenly like they do. The parents were trying to get to him, but there was nothing they could do.”

Weed said that the child’s injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, but he has been transported to Troy Regional Medical Center for any needed treatment.
