Rising Troy senior men’s golfer Jared Bettcher has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar for his work on the golf course and in the classroom last season.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, student-athletes must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A biomedical sciences major, Bettcher finished his junior season with a 73.50 stroke average, eight rounds under par and six rounds in the 60s. Bettcher, a native of Auburn, Ala., tied for the team lead with six top-25 finishes while turning in three top-10 performances.
After leading Troy with a 72.71 stroke average in the fall, Bettcher closed the spring strong as he was victorious in both of his match play contents at the Sun Belt Championship and turned in the top finish by a Trojan at the NCAA Franklin Regional.
Bettcher is a two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection and qualified for the NCAA Auburn Regional as an individual his freshman season. He played in the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship and will make his bid for this year’s event at a qualifier next week.
