Dothan, AL – The Troy American Legion Post 70 17U baseball team won the Gary “Tiny” Bernath Wiregrass Cardinals Classic this past weekend in Dothan. Post 70 went undefeated in the tournament on their way to the Championship.

Post 70 blanked Dothan Post 12, 7-0, in the Championship Game on Sunday morning. Reed Jinright threw a complete game giving up only two hits with six strikeouts. He also led Post 70 at the plate with a triple, single, and two RBI’s. Ethan Walker had a double and a single and Devon Suddith had two singles. Post 70 scored three runs in the third, two runs in fourth, and closed out the scoring with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Post 70 won two games on Friday defeating Wiregrass Cardinals Red 4-2 and Florida Express 2-1. Post 70 came from behind in Game 1 by scoring 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Bradley Paramore led off the seventh with a walk and Ethan Walker came in to pinch run. He would later score on a passed ball to tie the game. Reed Jinright had the winning RBI and Nathan Renfroe got a double to add an insurance run. Carson Tucker pitched four innings and Graham Wilkes came in to close out the Cardinals.

In the second game Friday Ethan Walker pitched a complete game, giving up only one run to defeat Florida Express. Post 70 scored both runs on a walk with the bases loaded and a wild pitch.

Post 70 blitzed Wiregrass Sports Academy 15-0 on Saturday to advance to the Championship game. Grant Hughes pitched the shutout. Post 70 was led at the plate by Devan Suddith who 3-3 with a double. Houston Walker went 2-2 with a triple. Edge Branum, Grant Hughes, Tyler Hussey and Graham Wilkes all had doubles.

“It was a complete team effort this weekend, everyone contributed,” said head coach Tripp Blackmon. “We got timely hits and everyone did their job when asked to move runners over. Our pitching was spot on and our defense was solid. It was nice to win this tournament by going undefeated.”
