Dothan, AL – The Troy American Legion Post 70 17U baseball team won the Matthew Jernigan Memorial Baseball Tournament this past weekend in Dothan. Post 70 got off to a slow start in the tournament by losing the first two games in pool play and was seeded eighth in the nine team field. That’s when Post 70 caught fire. Post 70 blitzed Jacksonville, FL Post 129 13-0 in the first game. Nathan Renfroe and Bradley Paramore both pitched 2 shutout innings and combined for a no-hitter. Post 70 reeled off three straight wins on Sunday to win the Championship. Post 70 defeated the Snuff City Bandits 10-2 in five innings. Reed Jinright pitched a complete game. Post 70 then defeated Jacksonville, FL Post 283 13-4 as well in five innings. Carson Tucker pitched 4 innings and Grant Hughes closed the door in the 5th inning. These two wins put Post 70 advanced to the Championship Game with Tuscaloosa Post 34. Post 70’s bats stayed hot and the pitching of Ethan Walker was superb as they defeated Post 34 14-4 in 4 innings.

“I was really proud of the way the guys played and responded to a little adversity during the tournament. Not many teams can start the way we did and then fight back to win the Championship. Everyone responded to the challenge and offensively we came alive Saturday evening and on Sunday.” Coach Tripp Blackmon

Post 70 exploded offensively by scoring 37 runs on Sunday. Leading Post 70, finding themselves on the bases multiple time were; Charlie Tisdale, Carson Tucker, Reed Jinright, Wyatt Grice, Ethan Walker, and Tyler Hussey.
