Zelma Vernice Weaver Champion

Zelma Vernice Weaver Champion joined her Lord and family in Heaven peacefully on June 21, 2016. Zelma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Huntsville and faithfully watched their television services.

Survivors include her children, Pat Weeks and husband, J.C., of Red Bay, and Sam Champion and wife, Cecilia of Auburn; grandchildren, Clay Weeks and wife, Carey, of Shreveport, LA, Marguerite Edwards and husband, Ronnie, of Keller, TX, Amanda Jones of Huntington Beach, CA, Will Champion and Nathan Champion, both of Auburn; great-grandchildren, Clarissa Edwards, Trenton Edwards, Bryant Edwards, Damon Weeks and Abby Weeks; sister, Mable Neighbors of Hartselle; brother, Elton Weaver and wife, Joyce, of Sevierville, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Champion was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mary Weaver; husband, Leon Champion; sister, Elsie Cox; brothers, Wallace Weaver and Ervin Weaver; and daughter, Mary Anne Jones.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Another visitation will be from1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Methodist Church in Troy, AL. A graveside service will follow at2:00 p.m. at the church cemetery with Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. (www.laughlinservice.com)

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels for their excellent care of Zelma over the last few years, also Whitesburg Gardens and Hospice of North Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital of any charity of your choice.
