Construction began Monday on an expansion to the Adams Administration Building at the Troy Campus that will serve to enhance the services offered by the University’s admissions office.

The small parking lot behind the Adams Administration Building directly off of University Avenue will be closed for the duration of the project. Additionally, the University Avenue entrance to the building and the second floor rear entrance will be inaccessible during construction.

Individuals who need access through an ADA approved accessibility entrance will need to enter the building at the northeast entrance by the Cashier Offices.  All others may enter at the main front entrance or at the Cashier Offices.

The construction will not impact traffic on University Avenue. The estimated time of construction is 240 days.

The approximately $2 million project will expand the administration building by about 3,300 square feet and renovate an additional 3,900 square feet.

The project will create a new welcome center for families and prospective students visiting the Troy Campus, said Buddy Starling, Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management.

“It will bring some versatility to the admissions office, allowing us to easily make presentations to large groups or individual families,” Starling said. “It will also bring technological enhancements, which will allow students to register, access information about the University or even post pictures from their visit to social media.”

The project will create a more welcoming and formal entrance to the building that is more easily accessible by guest parents and potential students, said Dr. Jim Bookout, Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Affairs.

“This new ‘front’ entrance will incorporate a design that will complement the designs of the John M. Hall, Trojan Dining and New Hall,” Bookout said.
