Mother Nature turned up the heat Thursday, but that didn’t keep people from enjoying the first Brown Bag event of the summer season on the Square in downtown Troy. Shelia Jackson, Troy public relations director, said it was one of the most well attended summer lunches on the Square.
“People have always enjoyed the fun and fellowship of Brown Bag” Jackson said. “It’s a community-wide event and the more people that find out about it, the more people are coming.”
Jackson said Henry Everett was the DJ for the event and he can always get people up and on their feet.
“Even though it was hot, some people got up and danced a jig or two,” Jackson said, laughing. “It’s always good to see our community come together and we had people of all ages and from all walks of life at Brown Bag. That’s what these events are about – a community coming together.”
Rita Boothe, an RN with Troy Regional Medical Center, was on site to administer free blood pressure checks and she was busy throughout the lunch hour.
“We want to thank TRMC and Rita for offering this service at Brown Bag,” Jackson said.
“We want to thank Mayor Jason Reeves and the City of Troy for sponsoring Brown Bag and all of those who helped in so many different ways.
“We want to also thank Donna Horn and Horn Beverage for donating the bottled water. With everybody working together, we had a great time together.”
The next Brown Bag event will be on June 23. Everyone is encouraged to mark that date on their calendars and make plans now to attend.
