The Brown Bag Lunches on the square in downtown Troy are usually the first hint that summer has arrived, however, this year Mother Nature kind of hedged ahead. Even so, the Brown Bag Lunch at noon on Thursday will celebrate the arrival of the easy days of summer and everyone is invited.

Willie B. Williams, assistant to Shelia Jackson, Troy public relations director, said the first Brown Bag Lunch of the summer season will feature entertainment by DJ Hendock, food, fellowship and fun.

“We are excited about our first Brown Bag event of the summer season and are expecting a big crowd,” Williams said. “The Brown Bag Lunches have grown in attendance over the years. Summer is always a great time to enjoy the outdoors and DJ Hendock is a favorite entertainer at Brown Bag. He can get hands clapping and toes tapping and some people just have to get up and dance.”

Brown Bags lunches will include hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, cookies and water and they are offered free to all participants.

“Some people like to stop by their favorite downtown restaurants and pick up lunch to enjoy at Brown Bag,” Williams said. “We just encourage everyone to enjoy the fun and fellowship of Brown Bag from noon until 1 p.m. Thursday on the square. It’s a great way for the community to come together and enjoy beautiful downtown Troy.”

Williams said two other Brown Bag events are planned on June 23 and July 14 and a special event in August to kickoff football season.

“We don’t have a date set for the football kickoff event yet but it will feature the coaches from Troy University and all the high schools in the county,” Williams said. “It will be a huge event and we are already looking forward to it.”

Williams expressed appreciation to Troy Mayor Jason A. Reeves and State Rep. Alan Boothe for their continued support of the Brown Bag events.
