Each June, the Brundidge Historical Society hosts an event that is as unpredictable and magical as the flight of a June bug.

This year’s June Buggin’ event at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge is set for noon on Thursday, June 16 and will feature nationally acclaimed storyteller Dolores Hydock, a Pennsylvania transfer whose feet are firmly planted in “Sweet Home, Alabama.”

Hydock will be featured in “Close Encounters of the Storytelling Kind.”

She will share her encounters with Alabama’s Legendary Storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Dr. Ruth.

A wise person once said, “The best part of an adventure is the people you meet along with way.”

Not only will June Buggers meet three of the nation’s most outstanding women, they will also meet one of the country’s premiere storytellers.

This month, Dolores Hydock is teller-in-residence at the International Storytelling Center in historic Jonesborough, Tennessee. She had been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, which is the granddaddy of all storytelling festivals, and will be featured at the highly acclaimed Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in Orem, Utah in the fall.

Locally, Hydock has appeared at the We Piddle Around Theater with Bobby Horton and at the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival as well as other popular Alabama storytelling festivals.

She was a featured teller at the Front Porch Storytelling Festival in Florence in May and packed the house for “Close Encounters.”
