Personnel focus of Pike BOE meeting

The Pike County Board of Education took care of year-ending business at its Monday meeting that included the board’s approval of the end-of-the-year personnel recommendations by Dr. Mark Bazzell, superintendent of Pike County Schools.

The approved recommendations will be published in The Messenger on Thursday.

• Approved the 2016-2017 Salary Matrix effective Oct. 1, 2l016 reflecting a 4 percent pay increase.

• Adopted a resolution supporting the Community Education Program.

•Approved change in the uniform for maintenance and transportation.

• Approved the textbook adoption list in the area of science for grades kindergarten through twelfth.

• Approved permission for the FFA members and sponsors to attend the FFA State Convention June 8-10 in Montgomery.

• Approved permission for FFA to attend the National FFA Convention Oct.  18 through 22 in Louisville, Kentucky.

• Approved permission to award bid for best control for the Child Nutrition Program to Meeks Termite and Pet control for the 2016-2017 school year.

• Approved permission for Lee Scott to attend the 2016 CLAS Convention June 12-15 in Montgomery.

• Approved permission for the Lady Eagles Basketball Team coaches and chaperones to attend and participate in the Lipscomb University Basketball Camp June 12-15 in Nashville, Tennessee.  Board approved the use of a school with Coach Lowery as the driver.

• Approved permission for the Goshen High School leadership cadet staff and instructors to attend the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge May 31-June 5 at Ft. McClellan. Charles Henderson High School will provide the bus for CHHS, Pike County High School and GHS cadets to travel.

• Approved permission for LaToya Gay, Cheryl Watson, Raven Shepherd, Brittany Gilmer and Jeff McClure to attend the Fourth Annual College and Career Readiness Networking Conference and the 30th Annual High Schools That Work Summer Staff Development Conference July 11-16 in Louisville, Kentucky.

• Approved permission for Hannah Clifford to attend the Alabama Educational Technology Conference June 7-9 in Birmingham.

• Approved permission for Teresa Webb, Health Care TPCT and Gabrielle Pettway, GHS to attend and participate in the HOSA International Leadership Conference, June 22-26 in Nashville, Tennessee.

• Approved permission for the Technology Department to surplus and dispose of old technology items on the approved list.

• Approved/denied student transfers.

• Approved permission for the GHS Eagles Boys Basketball Team coaches and chaperones to attend and participate in the Lipscomb University Basketball Team, June 12-15 in Nashville, Tennessee. The board will provide the bus. Coach Lowery will drive.

In personnel action, the board:

• Approved end-of-the-year personnel recommendations.

• Approved superintendent’s recommendation concerning discipline of a certified employee.

• Approved catastrophic leave for Shannah Loper, Pike County Elementary School.

• Accepted retirement/resignation of Michael Green, math, PCHS, effective June 1, 2016.

• Accepted retirement/resignation of Larry Messick, bus driver, effective June 1, 2016.

• Accepted retirement/resignation of Cheryll Penny, Goshen Elementary School, effective June 1, 2016.

• Accepted resignation of Roy Hoobler, choral music, PCHS, effective June 1, 2016.

• Accepted the resignation of Shea Driggers, physical education teacher at PCHS.

• Approved employment of Ali Grace Eiland, math teacher at PCHS.

• Approved employment of Anna Orlofsky, Spanish teacher at PCHS.
