With the Troy Arts Council punching the tickets, Pike Countians don’t have to go to New York City for a Broadway experience.
Tonight the TAC will present The Broadway Boys in concert at 7 p.m. at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. General admission tickets are $20 and student tickets are $5 with an ID. Tickets will be available at the door.
Joel Williams, TAC president, said The Broadway Boys concert features a collection of six of the hottest male voices currently working on the New York Stage.
There’s a roster of more than 30 ‘Boys” so the lineup varies from concert to concert.
“But each sextet is equally outstanding so we can expect a Broadway quality concert from The Broadway Boys,” Williams said.
The Broadway Boys have two goals. First, to introduce audiences outside the theater community to genres of music they many not be with familiar with by fusing Broadway music and Pop styles.
“They don’t rehash old songs,” Williams said. “Their concerts feature new arrangements of songs that we all know so it’s familiar music made new.”
Williams said The Broadway Boys concert will include lots of gospel, some rock and a bit of soul.
The Broadway Boys’ concert also offers a varied songbag that includes tunes from the silver screen.
“So expect the unexpected,” Williams said. “You might hear songs from ‘Mary Poppins’ or from “The Lion King’ or maybe even a Beatles song or two. Broadway is coming to Troy and it will be a great show.”
