Piney Woods has different meanings around the country but around Southeast Alabama it means one thing – the annual Piney Woods Arts Festival.

For 42 years now, the Piney Woods Arts Festival has been bringing together many of the area’s most outstanding artists and craftsmen for a two-day show that has become a rite of spring.

The Piney Woods is set for April 2 and 3 on the running track at Enterprise State Community College in Enterprise.

The festival, which is one of the oldest juried arts and crafts shows in the area, is sponsored annually by the Coffee County Arts Alliance.

Ginny Canon, Alliance marketing, said Piney Woods features original arts and crafts and much more.

A variety of local bands, choirs and dance groups will entertain festivalgoers.

The Josh Buckley Band and Soundscape Band will be two of the featured bands at Piney Woods.

Josh Buckley is a wild-eyed Southern boy from the red clay, dirt roads of South Alabama.

Canon said Buckley has cemented his love for the wide-open, foot-stomping style of today’s modern country music.

“Josh has put together a band with diverse backgrounds ranging from pop to rock to blues and country,” Canon said.

Soundscape Band is a Southern rock ban that plays favorites from The Allman Brothers, Lynard Skynard and Ray LaMongagne.

The festival also features a children’s fun center, food and entertainment.

“The children’s fun center will include face painting, Jumper Roos, pony rides and a petting zoo,” Canon said. “We encourage everyone to the visit the student art exhibit just off the track in the college gymnasium. The exhibit opens to the public at 1 p.m. on Saturday and includes art and photography by students in grades seven through 12.”

The Piney Woods Festival has two special events that are not to be missed. A Civil War Living Display will be a highlight of the festival. The Weevil City Cruisers Car and Truck Show will be a Saturday only event. The show will be across campus from the Piney Woods Art Festival. Admission is free.

The 42nd annual Piney Woods Arts Festival will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 and from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 3. Everyone is invited to the Piney Woods where everyone has a good time.
