Rehobeth senior pitcher Raygan Larson struck out 13 and allowed only two hits as the Charles Henderson High Lady Trojans fell 10-0 Tuesday night in a Class 5A, Area matchup in Troy.
The Lady Rebels, now 21-1 on the year, are a program that traditionally makes a run in the post season, while the Lady Trojans, now 6-7 on the year, are young and improved over previous years, and despite Tuesday’s setback are heading in the right direction.
Rehobeth had two big innings, scoring five runs in the second and four in the sixth, while outhitting CHHS 14-2. The Lady Trojans also had four errors on defense to aide the Rehobeth rallies.
Emma Kirkpatrick and Tucker Earles each had hits for CHHS, while Rehobeth’s Larson not only got the win but was also 4-for-4 at the plate.
The Lady Rebels scored five runs in the second inning, four in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 10-0 win.
“We were not aggressive enough at the plate and we kept getting behind in the count, and that worked to (Larson’s) advantage,” said CHHS Head Coach Robin Snyder. “Our pitcher (Emma Kirkpatrick) did a good job of getting ahead of them too, we just gave up two big innings.
“With a good team like Rehobeth, you can’t make mistakes. You’ve got to do the little things, and in that inning they scored five runs we started off with an error, and that just puts you in a hole. We’ve just got to keep growing as a team, and get mentally tough. We’re definitely getting better, but Rehobeth is good, and we’ve got to play our best game to beat them.”
CHHS plays in a Dothan High tournament this upcoming weekend, facing G.W. Long and Eufaula on Friday.
