A Troy man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a February shooting.
Police arrested Samuel Earl Crawford, 22, on Sunday after tips from the public helped locate the suspect. “After we released the information about the suspect, we had some tips from the public that helped us located him,” said Troy Police Chief Randall Barr. “He was taken into custody about 8:19 a.m. Sunday on Washington Street without incident.”
Police identified Crawford as the suspect in a Feb. 25 shooting that took place in the 200 block of Dunbar Drive. The victim was shot once in the chest and was sent to a Montgomery hospital for treatment.
“We had identified Crawford as the suspect and had been looking for him,” Barr said. “Detectives were able to attain an arrest warrant and had been seeking information on where he might be located.”
Barr said the public’s help proved key in making the arrest. “We ultimately would have caught him, but we certainly appreciate the help and the cooperation from the public in locating the suspect.
“It certainly makes our job easier.”
Crawford is charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. He was being held in the Pike County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
