Foy Lunsford

Foy Lunsford, a lifelong resident of Pike County, died peacefully at his home in Troy on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, surrounded by his family.

The son of the late Grady F. Lunsford and Ruth Beasley Lunsford, he was the eldest of seven children. He attended school at Sessions in the Needmore Community and was a member of the Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed working on the farm with his Dad and playing baseball with the neighborhood team.

Upon graduating from Troy High School, he joined the State of Alabama DOT, the Alabama National Guard and later the Army Reserve. After 40 years with the AL DOT he retired as the 7th Division Traffic Engineer. He found pride in a job well done and greatly valued working with his peers. When not teaching the younger members of the family how to fish, or working at the farm he was enjoying his time playing golf at the Troy Country Club with friends.

In 1957, he married Norma Jean Wallace, also of Troy and they celebrated their 58th anniversary on July 21, 2015. They have three daughters, Kathy L. Griffin (Jackson) of Pike Road, Kim Lunsford (deceased) and Jessica Lunsford of Troy. He is also survived by grandson Josh Grissett (Shannon) of Pike Road, great-granddaughter Sydney Grissett, his sister Elizabeth L. Grissett of Talladega, brother Jimmy C. Lunsford (Faye) of Troy, sister Diane Harrelson of Troy and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters Margaret Jo Kendrick (Jerry), Brenda L. Harrelson and Bernice L. Anderson.

Visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 12:00-2:00 pm and will be followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm with Reverend Malone Chandler and Reverend Danny Arnold officiating.

A private family interment will be held in Pleasant Hill Church.

Honorary pallbearers will are former coworkers of the AL DOT.

His family would like to thank Dr. Kristen Riley (UAB), Dr. Keith A. Thompson and the staff of Montgomery Cancer Center, Dr. Micky DiChiara, Hospice Advantage and al who provided him with care.
