Etha Tillery Head

Etha Tillery Head, age 91, a lifelong resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at her home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Dwayne Norman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with the deacons of Bush Memorial Baptist Church serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Women’s Ministry of Bush Memorial and the quilters group from the Colley Senior Complex. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Bush Memorial Baptist Church (605 S George Wallace Dr. Troy, AL 36081) or to the Colley Senior Complex (715 Elm Street Troy, AL 36081).

Mrs. Head was a longtime telephone operator in Troy serving as a member of the “number please” group, and she later retired as a registrar from the Pike County Health Department. She was a founding member of Bush Memorial Baptist Church, a dedicated quilter at the Senior Colley Complex, and a gardening guru, most famous for her canned green beans and daylilies. Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Tisha Gunter Tillery; her husband of 63 years, Calvin Coolidge Head; son-in-law, Alan Robinett; and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Bobby (Linda) Head; daughter, Becky Robinett; grandchildren, Justin Robinett and Jared (Alexa) Robinett; great-grandchildren, Brooks Robinett and Cooper Robinett; sister-in-law, Myrtle Chesser Tillery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
