The photography of Jerry Siegel and the wall-size canvas paintings of Mike Howard are more than enough to draw a crowd to the Johnson Center for the Arts tonight. But, there’s even more.
Mary Howard, the wife of artist Mike Howard, is an added attraction for the artists’ reception and Art Talk from 6 to 8 p.m. at the JCA on East Washington Street in downtown Troy.
“Mary Howard is described in a 2015 Vogue magazine article as ‘The Woman Behind Fashion’s Most Spectacular Sets,’” said Vicki Pritchett, JCA executive director. “She designs sets for some of the most famous photographers in the world, including Steven Meisel and Annie Leibovitz. She recently returned from England where she designed sets for photographs of Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.”
Among many other celebrities, Mary Howard has also designed photo sets for Caitlyn Jenner, Pritchett said.
“Mary Howard will join Mike in the Art Talk he will be giving about his exhibit, ‘Coming Home.’ She will give the audience a rare insight into the lifestyles of this creative couple,” Pritchett said.
Howard’s work is on exhibit with that of Selma, Alabama photographer Jerry Siegel’s “Responding to Home: In the Heart of Alabama.” Both exhibitions will run through April 9, 2016.
“We are beyond thrilled to have Mary Howard join her husband, along with popular photographer and book publisher Jerry Siegel at the opening reception,” Pritchett said. “These two exhibits are about home and we can all relate to that theme. We invite everyone to join us tonight as we journey home to the heart of Alabama.”
