Emma Kirkpatrick, Lakin Turner and Tucker Earles combined efforts on the mound to allow only one run on two base hits as the Lady Trojans of Charles Henderson High defeated Park Cross-ing of Montgomery 19-1 Thursday night in Troy.

Park Crossing took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Trojans scored three in the bottom of the first, and rallied for 11 in the bottom of the second inning for the 14-1 lead. CHHS added five more in the third to put the game away.

“I thought we played pretty good, but we still have lots of areas we need to improve upon,” said CHHS Head Coach Robin Snyder. “We swung at some pitches we should have left alone, but overall I was pleased that we were able to get our first win of the season and that gives us a lit-tle confidence.

“We’re feeling good about this win, and whether it is the game of baseball or softball, it is all about momentum, and getting things headed in the right direction. I’m definitely satisfied with our overall performance, and proud of the girls and glad for the win. This is something to build on.”

Turner, Rose Snyder and Earles each had two hits for the Lady Trojans, while Molly Kate Sand-ers, Lindsey Fox and Jaycee Todd had one hit each.

Turner and Fox also drew two walks, while Kirkpatrick drew three bases on balls. Turner, Snyder and Earles each had three runs batted in, while Sanders had two. Sidney Armstrong, Fox, Todd and Hope Freeswick each drove in one run.

Park Crossing scored one run on two hits while committing seven errors.

The Lady Trojans have a majority of players that are freshmen and sophomores, but Coach Snyder believes his girls play as an older team.

“We’re young, but we’re experienced,” said Snyder. “We’ve got girls with many years of playing this game. We’re definitely young, and youth will play a role at times, but we are approaching this season in that we are not going to let youth be an excuse.”

The Lady Trojans improved to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Montgomery Friday and Saturday to play in the BT Bighorn Classic. CHHS faces Brew Tech at 2:15 and will take on Park Crossing again at 5:45 p.m.
