The Goshen Ag Academy students recently took a field trip to Scott Farm Supply to learn about feed and nutrition. The academy allows students to earn an associate’s degree while in high school.

The students in the Pike Agriscience Academy at Goshen High School are taking their learning on the road.

Students enrolled in the Introduction to Animal Science through Wallace State Community College recently took a field trip to Scott Farms in Goshen as part of an introduction to upcoming lessons on feed and nurtirion.

The students learned about the proper nutrients a farm animal requires. “Students must be informed on what an animal needs and how to read the nutrient facts on the back of a feed bag, as well as which ingredients should be listed first,” said Mack Scot.

This field trip was beneficial to the students who live on farms and the students who are striving for a career in animal science.

“It was a great experience, because I got to learn about how you can’t give too much protein to certain breeds of animals because they will founder, which means an overgrowth of the hoof,” Halee King, a junior participating in the academy.
