The Peanut Butter Festival in Brundidge on the last Saturday in October is the place to be for peanut butter fans. Brundidge is an official member of the Peanut Butter Lovers Fan Club and among the peanut butter lovers are the members of the Brundidge Study Club.

The study club is the annual sponsor of the festival’s Peanut Butter Recipe Contest and awards ribbons to the best peanut butter recipes in five categories.

Molly Casey, contest co-chair, said the Peanut Butter Recipe Contest is open to adults and students ages nine and up in Pike and other peanut-producing counties.

Casey said the rules are rather simple.

“Each recipe entered in the contest must contain at least a half cup of peanut butter,” she said. “The recipe does not have to be original. It can be grandma’s favorite recipe or one borrowed from a popular cookbook. The origin of the recipe is not that important.”

The five categories for judging are candy, 16 pieces or more; cookies, 16 or more cookies; cake, one-half of whole; pie, whole; and other.

Each category will have a youth and an adult division. Ages for the youth divisions are nine through 18.

“Each recipe must have a copy of the recipe, typed or printed with it,” Casey said. “The category should be noted on the top right corner of the recipe. On the reverse side, include your name, mailing address and telephone number. Students should also list their school, grade, age and homeroom teacher’s name.”

All recipes must be entered in the contest at the Brundidge Station no later than9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Brundidge Station is located across from the Brundidge Post Office on North Main Street.

“Each prepared recipe should be submitted for judging on a disposable plate or container, which will not be returned,” Casey said. “All recipes will be submitted to a panel of judges. Judging will be based on taste, appearance and uniqueness. Judging will be completed around 11 a.m. Winners will be announced on the festival stage following the Nutter Butter Parade which begins at 1 p.m. in downtown Brundidge.”

Samples of each recipe will be sold after the judging is completed.
