Alfred Lorenzo Jones, 22, is now facing murder charges, after the woman he is accused of shooting died on Thursday.
Jones was being held in the Pike County Jail on an upgraded bond of $100,000. He was arrested Wednesday and originally charged with attempted murder in the shooting of an unidentified woman.
Troy PD responded to the 500 block of Elm Street Road at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving information that a shooting had occurred at that residence. They found the victim in the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police later located Jones on Farrior Street in Troy and took him to the police department before obtaining a warrant for his arrest.
Lt. Bryan Weed of the Troy Police said the victim and Jones got into an altercation in the residence, which ended with the victim being shot. Officers have said the incident was not considered domestic violence.
Police have released no further information about the victim, but said she was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center, then later flown to a Montgomery hospital, where she died Thursday.
No further details have been released as the case remains under investigation by the Troy Police.
