The Pike County United Way will kickoff its 2016 fundraising campaign from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. The museum is one of 18 agencies that serve Pike County that are funded by the United Way.

Kari Barley, museum director, said she is excited that the Pike County United Way board chose the museum as the site for its “Taste of Pike County” kickoff event.

“The Pioneer Museum of Alabama benefits greatly from the funds we receive from the United Way,” Barley said. “The funds are used to support our children’s programs that include student day at Pioneer Days, summer camps and hands on history events. We also use the funds to bus students to the museum for special events. So, we are proud to be a part of hosting this United Way event.”

Barley said the museum grounds will provide a unique setting for the “Taste of Pike County.”

All United Way agencies will have booths at “Taste of Pike County” along with local businesses, clubs and organizations. The booths will be at different locations on the grounds.

“‘Taste of Pike County is opportunity for the community to learn more about the United Way agencies and the businesses and organizations in Pike County,” Barley said. “It’s like a Pike County sampler and it’s a wonderful way to showcase all of the products, services and activities and events that Pike County has to offer.”

Barley said the museum’s cabins and outbuildings will be open and everyone will be encouraged to stroll the grounds and visit each of the participating businesses, agencies and organizations.

“Entertainment for ‘Taste of Pike County’ will be Johnny Barron, Shelia Jackson, SheBANG! the Brundidge American Legion Dancers and the First Baptist puppets.

“We’ll also have a kids’ corner where kids can have their faces painted and make craft items,” Barley said. “The Pioneer Museum is proud to be a part of the Pike County community coming together for this event. We invite everyone to come out Tuesday night and support the United Way in a fun way.”

Admission to the “Taste of Pike County” Tuesday night at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama is $5.
