Nancy Mae Green Williams

Nancy Mae Green Williams, age 98, a lifelong resident of Pike County, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Perry Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery with Rhon Jones, Alex Whaley II, Merrill Green, Mark Green, Cliff Boutwell, and Butch Foster serving as pallbearers and Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Old Lebanon Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2015, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Mrs. Williams spent much of her life dedicated to education, excelling as both a student and a teacher. She graduated as the valedictorian of her Shellhorn School class, went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Education from Troy Teachers College and a Master’s degree in Library Science from Auburn University. She spent 38 years molding young minds across the Pike County School System, while teaching in China Grove, Harmony, Spring Hill, and Goshen. Mrs. Williams was a lifelong member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution. More importantly she trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was a lifelong member of Old Lebanon Baptist Church. She was deeply rooted in her faith and participated in many activities at her church and Bible studies in her community. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Curry J. Williams; parents, Basil Manley and Lillie Mae Youngblood Green; sisters, Minnie Beth Baker and Vera Emma Worthington; and brothers, G.T. Green and Basil Manley Green, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Williams (John) Key of Fitzgerald, GA, and Mabeth Williams (David) Gibson of Troy, AL; grandchildren, John Curry (Dawn) Key of Troy, AL, Deanna Gibson (Patrick) Jones of Bellaire, TX, Jann Key (Paul) Ague of San Diego, CA, and Nancy Allyne Gibson of Louisville, KY; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to The Gideons International Organization/Pike County Camp (PO Box 245 Troy, AL 36081), Old Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (c/o John Nunnelee 5698 County Road 1101 Troy, AL 36079), or to your favorite charity.
