Lottie Louise Lee Smith

Lottie Louise Lee Smith, died peacefully July 6, 2015 at her home in Jackson. Funeral services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Thursday, July 9 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at Oakridge Hall at St. James on Wednesday July 8 from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm.

Lottie was born on April 8, 1928 in Tallulah, Louisiana where she spent her youth. She was the only child of Horace Wilton Lee and Wylma Pierson Lee.

In 1949 she graduated from Sophie Newcomb College with a degree in Theater Arts. While she was in college in New Orleans she met Catchings Baird Smith. They were married April 29, 1950 and celebrated 59 years of marriage before his death in 2009.

They made their home in Jackson where she was active in many community organizations including the Little Theater, DAR, Le Dejeuner Luncheon Club and the Southern Luncheon Club.

Reading and travel were by far her favorite forms of entertainment. For over 10 years she was an active and devoted member of the Reases Book Club. The members and lively conversations brought her so much pleasure. Her favorite travel excursions were to New York City with her daughters and having a marathon Broadway experience.

She was a lifelong devoted Episcopalian, joining St. James in the early years of its development. At St. James she served on the vestry and the discernment committee, and participated in Education For Ministries and Cursillo.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter, Elisabeth Miller.

She is survived by daughter Sharon Miller and husband Jim of Vicksburg, daughter Melissa Patterson and husband David of Madison County, and son Baird Smith of Monteagle, Tennessee. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Andrea Miller Pound, her husband Tyson and their two children Anne Elise and Lottie of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived her grandson, Randolph Miller, his wife Laura Allyson, and their daughter, Allie Grace of Troy, AL.

The family would like to thank her devoted and loving caregivers. Mary William, Geraldine Reed, Michelle Johnson, Helen Geary, Dorothy Edwards and Luanana Jones. They would also like to thank Shannon Hunter, Courtney McKinnis, Crystal McKinnis and their families.
