Pike County women encountered an educational experience during this month’s Female Factor Wednesday. Instead of focusing on one speaker, Female Factor served as a health fair to show what Pike County has to offer for health care.

“A health fair is something the hospital has helped with,” said Karen Herring, advisory board member. “We like to do three or four health fairs a year as part of our community action plan. Health is something that is one of our platforms for Female Factor. Sometimes we get caught up in the fun part of it. With the health fair and just letting people know that we are blessed with everything we have in Pike County with everything we have to take care of us. That’s the main purpose of the health fair.”

Between 90 and 100 women gathered in The Studio for lunch and the health fair. About 15 booths were set up to teach women about things such as eye care, skin care, bone density, blood pressure, hearing needs, physical therapy and more.

“A lot of people don’t know what physical therapy is or what we actually do, so having a chance to talk to people one on one and educate them on services we actually provide is beneficial,” said Rachel Green with PT Solutions.

“Female Factor is a great way that the hospital is able to reach out to the community and give back,” said Jason Jones with Jones Medical Spa. “This health fair is a great way for us to get our and network, get to see old friends and make some new ones all at the same time.”

The women at Female Factor remain faithful each month because of the friends and the fellowship. The health fair was just icing on top of the cake.

“I like to come because the fellowship is fun,” said Eulane Jones, a regular attendant. “You get to visit with people that you don’t get to see all the time. This is neat today to have all of this. I didn’t realize all this was going to be here and I got a goodie bag.”

They also enjoy how educational Female Factor is each month and how useful it is to learn things for everyday life.

“There is a lot of information that you can use,” said Doristine Sankey, another regular attendant. “I come every month. I haven’t missed one. There is a lot of information for females. You just learn a lot of different things.

Sankey said she met everyone at her table by attending Female Factor.

“With the health fair, we are just letting people know that we are blessed with everything we have in Pike County with everything we have to take care of us,” Herring said. “That’s the main purpose of the health fair.”

Female Factor, sponsored by Troy Regional Medical Center, among other local sponsors, holds a meeting the second Wednesday of each month at noon in The Studio in downtown Troy.
