Nearly two years after nationally acclaimed watercolorist Jack DeLoney closed his art gallery in Ozark, he’s back in the palette and in the spotlight.

DeLoney will be featured in a solo show, “Jack’s Palette,” at the Ann Rudd Art Center in downtown Ozark June 6 through July 25 with the opening reception from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited. Admission is free and the dress is casual.

Judy Honey, vice president of the Dale County Council on Arts and Humanities, said DeLoney retired from his business but he didn’t retire his brushes.

“Jack took a short break from painting but only a short break,” Honey said. “He has a large volume of new work and it’s not the artwork that people have come to expect from Jack DeLoney.”

At “Jack’s Palette,” patrons of the arts won’t see the cotton fields and other agricultural scenes for which Jack DeLoney is so well known and respected.

“In this show, Jack has a lot of florals and some portraits,” Honey said. “He does have paintings of homesteads, woodlands and creeks. But his work now is less detailed than his earlier work, which often took four months or more to complete. His work is now more fluid, freer flowing. He said he is having more fun with his painting.”

Most of the artwork will be originals DeLoney has done since he retired. However, the show will include some earlier pen and ink drawings and several paintings done during trips to Mexico. Many of the pieces will be for sale.

Exhibit dates for the “Jack’s Palette” solo show are 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 1 until 4 p.m. Saturdays, June 6 through July 25. Admission is free.

The Ann Rudd Art Center is located at 144 East Broad Street in downtown Ozark.
