The Cultural Arts Committee of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce came to its May meeting 2,000 strong.

The committee celebrated the publication of 2,000 brochures that highlight the cultural arts organizations and venues in Pike County.

Kathy Sauer, Chamber president, said the brochure titled “Explore the Arts in Pike County” was the committee’s first collaborative project and was made possible through a grant from the Alabama Tourism Department.

“The grant was a matching grant, and all of the cultural arts organizations contributed to the matching funds for the grant,” Sauer said. “Of the 2,000 brochures we had printed, the Alabama Tourism Department will distribute 1,000 to the state’s welcome stations and rest areas and to other tourism areas around the state.

“The other 1,000 brochures will be divided among the participating partners in the project,” Sauer said.

The project partners are The Confucius Institute, Brundidge Historical Society, Malone Gallery, Troy Arts Council, Johnson Center for the Arts, Pioneer Museum of Alabama, Brundidge Business Association, Troy Music Study Club, Troy University College of Communication and Fine Arts, City of Troy Tourism and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

“These partners will use the brochures to promote their organizations and their events as well as to promote the cultural arts throughout Pike County,” Sauer said. “Some of the brochures will be placed in public venues throughout the county.

“These brochures will inform and educate people in our area and throughout the state and beyond to the many cultural arts opportunities that are available in Pike County. In turn, we hope more people will visit our county and attend our events. We want Troy and Pike County to become a destination for the cultural arts. The brochure is one way to make it happen.”

Sauer expressed appreciation to the Alabama Tourism Department for the grant, to Walter Black, Johnson Center for the Arts exhibition director, who designed the brochure and to all of the cultural arts organizations for their support of the project.
