Rev. George Gilchrist honored

Rev. George Gilchrist ,Jr is the pastor of the Historic First Missionary Baptist Church, Troy, Ala.; the first African-American Church in the Troy Vicinity. He has been the pastor there for the past 34 years (as of May 17th, 2015, ).
Pastor Gilchrist has created an ambience of caring for your fellow man. During his 34 years of service at First Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Gilchrist has been very instrumental in establishing events for the church and the community. He developed a food pantry and clothing ministry to serve citizens in Troy and Pike County residents, a Back to School Drive to provide school supplies for children, several community wide health fairs and various seminars for Christianity, and personal growth.
Pastor Gilchrist is concerned about the quality of life in our community and believes it is critically important to let people know that they can make a difference. Many of the students from Troy University attend our worship services and invite their parents and friends when they visit from other states to attend as well. The First Missionary Baptist Church has approximately 350members and is strong and growing.
Pastor Gilchrist is constantly seeking to share Christ with anyone who will listen and determined to spread the gospel. Pastor Gilchrist studied at Troy University and Montgomery’s Howard University School of Theology. He is a Vietnam veteran and is retired from the United States Postal after 36 years of service. Currently he serves as a Chaplin for the Troy Sheriffs Department and for his high school basketball team, Carver High School, Montgomery, Ala.
