Troy artist Joan Word will be the guest speaker at the Art Talk at the Johnson Center for the Arts Wednesday in downtown Troy.
Vicki Pritchett, Johnson Center executive director, said Word is a student of art and of architecture and will focus the art talk on the historical residential areas of Troy.
The title of Word’s Art Talk will be “The Architecture of Troy’s Historical Street” and will begin at 11 a.m.
“The Art Talk will be about house styles such as Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Queen Anne and so forth,” Word said. “The talk will focus on the house styles of the College Street Historic District and will include examples of styles on Walnut, Murphree, Pine and Orange streets. It will also include Craftsman, Tudor and Cape Cod style houses.
Word’s Art Talk will include a slide presentation. She will also have handouts on house styles and some architectural elements to supplement the Art Talk.
“The talk will be an opportunity to learn how to look at houses and know what style the houses are from Queen Anne to prairie,” Word said.
The Art Talk will be about an hour in length with time for questions and answers.
