ONE MAN’S JUNK

If there is any validity to the old adage that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, the grounds of Cattleman Park are overrun with treasures.
The Pike County Cattlemen’s Association Equipment Auction will get underway at 8 a.m. Saturday at Cattleman Park on Highway 231 between Brundidge and Troy.
B.B. Palmer, director of the Pike County Cattlemen’s Association, said the adage applies to the Cattlemen’s equipment with one exception.
“We don’t have any trash up for auction but we do have a whole lot of stuff,” Palmer said. “An item that one person might no longer need or want, will probably be just what someone else is looking for. That’s how the annual equipment auctions works.”
Palmer said the equipment auction will have 11 lines of items to be auctioned with 80 lots to each line.
Cattleman Don Renfroe said items on the auction block will include everything from computers to popcorn poppers and from tractors to roller skates.
“The auction has small items like cast iron cookware that’s as old as the hills and antique lanterns,” he said. “There’s a Massey Ferguson 150 and that’s an antique. We’ve got a long line of vehicles on line 11. Some are surplus city and county vehicles and, of course, from individuals.”
Also up for bid will be unique items like a chariot and several travel trailers.
“One of those travel trailers has been converted for use as a man cave,” Cattleman Johnny Garrett said. “It was fixed up as a place for deer and turkey hunters. We’ve got a lot of big items as well as small ones.
“We’ll have gas logs, mule-drawn plows, bicycles, farm implements, golf carts, filing cabinets, fans, lumber, pot-bellied stoves, trailers, fire irons, backhoes, just about anything you can think of and some things you never thought of.”
The Pike County Cattlemen’s Equipment Auction will get underway promptly at 8 a.m. and will work its way down the lines with the exception of the vehicles.
“The vehicles will be auctioned beginning at 11 o’clock,” Palmer said. “There’s always a lot of interest in the vehicles so we have a specific time to auction them. After the vehicles are auctioned, we’ll got back done the lines.
Concessions will be available inside the Cattleman building and on the grounds.
Everyone who enjoys the fun of live auctions and the deals that go to the highest bidder are invited to the 10th annual Pike County Cattlemen’s Equipment Auction Saturday at Cattleman Park.
