Dr. John Hendrik Muller

Dr. John Hendrik Muller, age 86, of Troy, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at his residence. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 11:00 in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Gene Omasta and Rev. Danny Arnold officiating with Green Hills Funeral Home directing.

Dr. Muller was a longtime resident of Troy, having immigrated to the United States in the late 1950s in pursuit of the woman of his dreams. He made his way to Oklahoma where he went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma City College in 1960 and a Master of Science from Oklahoma State University in 1963. Dr. Muller relocated to Troy, AL, in 1963, and started his career as a Professor of Chemistry with Troy State University. He later earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1971. When he wasn’t inspiring young scientists, he spent his time traveling the world, camping and walking, sailing the North Sea, basking in the surroundings of Grayton Beach, sharing an affection for all things Dutch, and loving his late wife, Frankie, for every moment of his life.

Dr. Muller was preceded in death by his parents Johannes Hendrik Muller and Lolkje Klein Muller; his dear wife of 40 years, Frankie deHaan Muller; and brother, Sander Muller. He is survived by his daughters, Tina Lori Muller Lieb (Olaf Thomas Lieb) of Troy, AL, and Lonneke Margriet Muller (David Montgomery) of Central Point,OR; grandchildren, Lloyd Hendrik Shillabeer of Savannah, GA, Alexander Ray Dorrity of Germany, Fraukje Martha Lieb, Ingrid Olivia Lieb and Anja Katharina Lieb all of Troy, AL, Cameron Ashton Sloane, Preston Elliott Montgomery, Johaann Hendrik Muller, and Savannah Shay Montgomery, all of Central Point, OR; two great-grandchildren; sister, Janny Duijnhouwer (Frits) of Holland; and special caregiver, Diana Norris Beach.
