Jackson to appear in court Feb. 3

A Goshen man who shot and fatally killed his son is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 3.
Sammy D. Jackson, 44, was charged with murder and attempted murder after a Nov. 9, 2013, incident occurred in Jackson’s County Road 1143 home.
According to reports, Jackson fatally shot his 18-year-old son with a 12-gague shotgun that Saturday morning. Jackson then shot his 16-year-old son as the boy tried to escape through an open window. The younger son survived the incident.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said following the incident that the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute between Jackson and his wife that had started Friday evening. Thomas said there had been a history of domestic problems with in the family.
Jackson was released on $100,000 and $50,000 bonds in January 2014. His arraignment was held in April 2014
District Attorney Tom Anderson said the defense requested a continuance Jan. 5, but it was opposed by the DA.
“The defense is asking for a continuance and permission to have another mental evaluation, performed by an examiner of their choosing,” Anderson said. “We’ve opposed the continuance.”
Jackson’s trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 3 in with Pike County Circuit Judge Shannon Clark presiding.
