Richard Shaughnessy, who has served as the head strength and conditioning coach for Troy University for the last 20 seasons, has been promoted to director of strength and condition, athletic director John Hartwell announced Monday.

Shaughnessy has led an illustrious career at Troy since he arrived at the university. In October of 2003, the National Strength and Conditioning Association named Shaughnessy one of 18 “Elite” Strength Coaches in the world.

And in 2009, the same association inducted him as a Master Strength Coach in May of 2009, the highest honor awarded for individuals in the field of strength and conditioning.

In his 20 years at Troy, Shaughnessy has overseen and trained all 16 of the university’s athletic programs.

In the past 15 years, over 100 college athletes  have gone on to play at the next level.

“Richard is highly respected across the country and is one of the industry leaders in collegiate strength and conditioning,” Hartwell said. “It is evident when watching our teams play the impact that Coach Shaughnessy and his staff have had on their development.”
