ZION CHAPEL – Last week was a tough loss for the Zion Chapel Rebels, as they fell to Central Hayneville by eight points, 22-14

And, head coach Bradley Bowers said last week’s game has served a motivator for the Rebels as they worked this week to face region opponent New Brockton in a road game.

“We came out and it was boom, boom, boom, and we were down 22-0 nothing,” Bowers said.

“We just couldn’t dig ourselves out the hole. We played until the very end, but we made a lot of mistakes.”

The Rebels have been working consistently to play mistake-free football, and Bowers said last week’s loss shows what happens when mistakes creep in. However he said players are keepinga positive attitude.

“It’s been a positive force,” Bowers said. “We tell the guys you can’t win a football game (only by mentality) … but you sure can lose one.”

The Rebels will face the New Brockton Gamecocks in a region game, and Bowers said he felt the team was prepared.

“I think we’ve had a good week of practice,” Bowers said. “I think we have a good scheme going in. Monday we brought the guys in and we talked to the seniors, then I talked to the underclassmen and before practice we talked to them as a whole. I think we got some things worked out.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Greene Memorial Stadium.
