A Troy man is out on bond after being found at a traffic stop with illegal drugs and an unpermitted pistol.
Alex Sexton Neal, 32, was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana first degree and not having a pistol permit.
Police arrested Neal after a traffic stop that took place around 11:30 p.m. on Three Notch Street.
Neal was found to be carrying several bags with white, powdery substance and a green leafy substance along with a fully loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol, said Lt. Brian Weed with the Troy Police Department.
“He had several plastic bags that contained a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine,” Weed said. “He also had several plastic bags with a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana.”
Weed said Neal had failed to follow a sign on Three Notch Street and when an officer pulled Neal over, the odor of marijuana was detected in Neal’s vehicle.
“While conducting the traffic stop the officer observed an odor of marijuana, and had a K9 unit respond,” Weed said. “A free air search around the vehicle was done when the canine detected drugs.”
After the dog detected drugs in the vehicle, a search was conducted and the officer located the small bags of marijuana and cocaine. Neal has been convicted of prior felonies, and Weed said Neal is unable to acquire a pistol permit.
“He is a convicted felon with previous drug related charges,” Weed said. “He was charged with not having a permit for the pistol, because he cannot posses a pistol permit because he is a felon.”
Neal was released on $15,000 bond Wednesday. afternoon.
