A Pike County man was arrested Tuesday morning after being involved in a fatal one-vehicle crash Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m.
Demetric Upshaw, 33, from Troy, was injured when his 2005 Linclon LS left the roadway and struck a tree.
Upshaw was four miles south of Troy on Pike Road 2214. His passenger, Herbert Pollard, 48, also from Troy, was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. Pollard died from injuries sustained during the accident.
Dothan State Trooper Kevin Cook said he was unsure why there was a delay in the arrest of Upshaw following the accident.
“All that information was turned over to Pike County District Attorney’s office,” Cook said. “We went and got an arrest warrant on him. I’m not so sure what took so long to have him arrested. I don’t know if they waited until he was released from the hospital.”
Cook said Upshaw had been transported to a hospital in Troy after sustaining injuries in the accident, but was unsure of the severity of his injuries or the extent of his treatment.
“I know he was transported to a hospital there in Troy,” Cook said. “I think it was Troy Regional Medical Center. I don’t know the extent of his injuries. I don’t know if he was kept over night.”
Upshaw is being held in the Pike County Jail under a $21,000 bond on charges of driving under the influence and manslaughter.
