CHHS cross country competes

The Charles Henderson High School cross country team placed sixth overall in the men’s 5K race at the Providence Eagle Invitational on Saturday.

Among the runners for CHHS were Taylor Montgomery, with a time of 20:41.90; Ryley Williamson, with a time of 22:18.76; Stephen Cooper, with a time of 25:44.05; Seth Manning, with a time of 28:05.6; and Zayvia Jackson, with a time of 31:21.64.

In the female 5K, Lakin Turner, a junior, turned in a time of 27:48.17 and Chante’ Walker turned in a time of 36:30.

Among the junior high runners were seventh-grader Tarryn Britt, placing sixth in the female two-mile run with a time of 28:55, and in the men’s two-mile race, Marcus Grant, with a time of 14:3480; Danny Troung, with a time of 17:48; Russ Oliver, with a time of 19:30; and Bobby Olcott, with a time of 21:31.

“We had a competitive first outing,” said Doug Branson, coach. “This was the first competition ever for seven of our 11 runners. Now we have something to build upon as we look to continue improving throughout the season.”

The team competes Sept. 11 in the Eufaula Cross Country meet.
