The Pike County Bulldogs are 2-0 after a decisive 26-6 victory over the Abbeville Yellowjackets on Friday.

Following the team’s first region win, head coach Fred Holland said he was proud of the changes he was seeing in his players from last week’s game.

“I think we played better,” Holland said. “We were a little better on offense and defense, we’re making small strides but we are getting better.”

Pike County scored consistently throughout the game, but Holland said the mental aspect of the game was still something the team needed to improve upon. “We made a lot of mistakes and penalties. I don’t really like mental mistakes and I stress that to the guys a lot, but the third and fourth quarters were better.”

While weather and heat put a damper on some of the games, Holland said the team faired well during the game. “There are a few guys banged up but nothing very serious,” Holland said. “They’ve been able to play through some minor stuff and have still been able to do well.”

The Bulldogs will host the Dale County Warriors next Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
