Zion Chapel faced Pleasant Home Friday night in Jack, and lost to the Eagles 26 to 22.
Although the team lost by four points, Zion Chapel head coach Bradley Bowers said he was still proud of his athletes.
“You’re never satisfied with a loss, and that’s what I told the guys after the game,” said coach Bradley Bowers. “I was very proud of the effort they showed. They played all four quarters. We made a few mistakes, but that’s one reason we play preseason games.”
One of the things Bowers felt the team could work on overall was their discipline on the field.
“We’ve got to work on being more disciplined overall as a team,” Bowers said. “We’ve got to take care of our responsibilities. It’s tough having guys playing both ways, so we’ve just got to get better.”
Working with smaller numbers for its football team, Bowers said it was hard to make sure his athletes were in game playing shape. Bowers, however, did say that in spite of the heat and humidity, none the Rebel athletes were faced with cramps.
“It was just one of those crazy nights with it being hot and humid, but we didn’t have a single cramp,” Bowers said. “We’ve just got to get in better playing shape. It’s hard when we don’t have enough guys to play 11-on-11 in practice. We’re just going to have to get better with more reps and more playing time as the season goes on.”
Zion Chapel will face Providence Christian in Green Memorial Stadium next Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
