Power lines and poles are being upgraded on South Brundidge Street this week with the affected portions being the area between Love and Madison streets.
“The poles and wires were old and due to be replaced,” said Brian Chandler, electric superintendent for the city.
The new wires will give the electric department more flexibility in providing power in an emergency or outage.
“We will have the ability to feed power in another direction, giving us another option,” Powers said. “This will allow us to provide better service to residences and businesses in the area.”
Powers said this is routine maintenance of the electric system, and the project should be completed soon.
