Earnest Marshall “Boy” Motes, Jr., age 89, of Troy, died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at his home. In lieu of a funeral service, a Life Celebration Visitation with the family will be held at Collegedale Church of Christ in Troy on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Motes retired from 117th Field Artillery Division of the Alabama National Guard in Troy as a Master Sergeant after 29 years of service. He also retired from South Central Bell in 1984, after 31 years of service. He will be buried with military honors at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL after a private family service.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helion Craft Motes of Troy; four daughters, Debbie Motes of Fayetteville, TN, Sandy Motes McLure of Troy, Lynn Motes (Randy) Childs of Letohatchee, AL, Janet Motes (Bart) Marshall of Troy; four sons, Terry (Wanda) Motes of Troy, Richard (Dianna) Motes of Crossville, AL, Mark (Deb) Motes of Troy and Scott Motes of Troy; one sister, Betty Motes Sanders of Troy, 18 grandchildren (Wendi Walters CaBoa and Casey Walters; William, Colin, Patrick and Elliott McLure; Greyson and Meredith Motes; Jarred (Kristin) and LeAnn Motes; Steven Motes; Rush (Sara), Lauren and Conner Childs; Alex and Andrew Hipps and Lexie and Sophie Motes) and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Marshall Motes, Sr. and Agnes Holder Motes of Shellhorn, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Pike County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and/or the American Heart Association, the Troy Recreation Department or the Collegedale Church of Christ.
